We were all saddened by the death on July 14th 2005 of our President Mr. Val Caton. Val died peacefully at home surrounded by his family.
Val was the third generation of his family to live and farm at Otterburn. The Catons have farmed in Malhamdale for more than 125 years. His youngest son Ashley is continuing this long tradition of farming in Otterburn.
Val was a successful sheep breeder and dairy farmer and he sold his dairy herd in 2003 to concentrate on sheep and beef.
He was well known for his integrity, generosity of spirit, kindness and humility.
When he died Val was in his second year of office as President of the North of England Mule Sheep Breeders Association. He was as excellent ambassador for the breed, and will be greatly missed by all of us.
