NEMSA Branch Reports 2007

HAWES BRANCH REPORT 2007

Having been Hawes Branch chairman for the past three years, I am writing my final report for Mule News, and to be quite honest I haven’t a clue where to start.

KENDAL BRANCH REPORT 2007

The wettest summer on record, Foot & Mouth restrictions twice, most local shows cancelled, Blue Tongue in the country, not bad for my first year as Chairman.

KIRBY STEPHEN BRANCH REPORT 2007

The terrible weather in June and July turned out to be the least of our worries this year, certainly the most stressful in my farming career and I guess many of you reading this report.

LAZONBY BRANCH REPORT 2007

This spring Lazonby branch returned to Wadebridge after a years absence for the Royal Cornwall Show. A couple of tremendous outfits in show condition were supplied by Ron Wilson, Armathwaite so many thanks to him for his continued support.

NORTHUMBERLAND BRANCH REPORT 2007

As I sit here writing my first report, it would be natural for me to go on about how bad the ewe lamb trade was or even the fat lamb trade (or lack of it), but instead I will start with North Sheep, which we attended.

SKIPTON BRANCH REPORT 2007

I write this report having just read various “Mule News” from over the years. In 1998 the Skipton average dropped £28.92 on the year which makes this year look successful!

TEESDALE BRANCH REPORT 2007

Well as I start to write my third chairman’s report for Mule News and look back on the year, we couldn’t have had a better lambing. Day after day of good weather and lambs everywhere. Trouble was all these lambs were going to cause big problems later.

WEARDALE BRANCH REPORT 2007

This is my first report as branch chairman so I’ll try not to moan too much (it’ll be hard). We’d had wonderful weather throughout lambing time, which put us all in a great mood for the year ahead.

WEST CUMBRIA REPORT 2007

What a wonderful year to begin as Chairman of the West Cumbria branch but we will get through it and things can only get better and they have as another top pen gimmer lamb came to Terrace farm this summer – the pen is getting fuller!

NEMSA Branch Reports 2006

HAWES BRANCH REPORT 2006

Since writing my report last year the first event that took place in our branch was the show and sale of Mule wethers. We held it at 3 Auction Marts - Bentham, Leyburn and Hawes.

KENDAL BRANCH REPORT 2006

It just seems like yesterday, but after three years I'm writing my final report as Chairman of Kendal branch.

KIRBY STEPHEN BRANCH REPORT 2006

As this is my first chairman's report I must start by thanking Kirkby Stephen branch members for their support, especially Christine Lambert (secretary) and Ian Davidson (vice-chairman) during the past year. Many thanks go to Robert Hayton for his dedicated hard work and enthusiasm during the past three years.

LAZONBY BRANCH REPORT 2006

This year Lazonby Branch decided to attend Scotsheep in early June, which was held at Huntly, Aberdeen. In recent years more buyers seem to be coming from north of the border and Scotsheep appeared a better bet than the Highland for effective promotion.

NORTHUMBERLAND BRANCH REPORT 2006

As we enjoy the mild weather in early October, it is easy to forget how wet and cold it was in the spring. Sleet, snow and a cold east wind, coupled with the drought and shortage of grass many of us experienced in July, it is amazing how many lambs survived to make it through to the ewe lamb sales this backend.

SKIPTON BRANCH REPORT 2006

The year began with the Northern Sheep Fair which was hosted at Skipton Auction Mart in January. The Fox family of Clitheroe once again kindly provided us with five excellent in lamb mule hoggs.

TEESDALE BRANCH REPORT 2006

Well here we are again. I wish someone could tell me where the last twelve months have gone.

WEARDALE BRANCH REPORT 2006

Begin at the Beginning. Having got the vote to be chairman for another year, I was confident there was a good chance of getting a sheep/NEMSA representation to cereals 2006 - to re-introduce arable farmers to the Golden Hoof.

WEST CUMBRIA REPORT 2006

Writing my last report as West Cumbria Branch Chairman, I have enjoyed it, and have met a lot of folk at Shows.

NEMSA Branch Reports 2005

KENDAL BRANCH REPORT 2005

Another year has flown by and it’s report time again. There were plenty of lambs at lambing and it was a better summer than last year, but it’s all change with the SFP system. How will this affect the mule gimmer lamb trade, was the question everyone was asking. My Gut feeling was the money would get less as back end went on.

KIRKBY STEPHEN BRANCH REPORT 2005

It just seems like yesterday but after three years, I’m writing my final report as Chairman of the Kirkby
Stephen Branch.

LAZONBY BRANCH REPORT 2005

My first year as Branch Chairman didn’t start well with a cold wet spring, then I was unable to get down to Cornwall Show and with recent poor prices it hasn’t finished well either. Never mind, but must do better next year!

NORTHUMBERLAND BRANCH REPORT 2005

After one of the wettest and coldest lambing times for years it was good to see so many quality sheep at the NORTH SHEEP event at Penrith. The Northumberland Branch supplied a Blackface ewe and pair of mule lambs and a Mule ewe with a pair of Suffolk lambs kindly loaned by the Archer family from Carry House and the Longlands family from Rushy Law. There were a lot of people on the stand and
much interest shown in the sheep, a very successful day.

WEST CUMBRIA BRANCH REPORT 2005

Another year has gone and here I am writing my report again, it has been a good summer and it’s doing well this autumn “up to pres.” forgetting one day last week ‘flash floods’ a bit like last January without the wind. Never mind, lambs have been looking well for the sales this backend.

HAWES BRANCH REPORT 2005

I am sitting in my living room trying to compile my first ever report for MULE NEWS. It’s a cold, wet October evening and the hot, dry summer seems a distant memory, but both summer and back-end have been a real treat! (Makes the preparation of Mule gimmers much easier.)
