SKIPTON BRANCH REPORT 2007

I write this report having just read various “Mule News” from over the years. In 1998 the Skipton average dropped £28.92 on the year which makes this year look successful! Perhaps the most frustrating thing about this year’s disappointment is the cause. Let’s hope that given normal market conditions including exports that next year’s trade can bounce back as it has in the past.

On August bank holiday Monday we attended Hope Show in Derbyshire. Although we couldn’t take any sheep to show off our wares, the stand was busy all day and our attendance appreciated by local farmers. We look forward to going back with some sheep. Many thanks to Kevin Wilson, Francis Caton and Jeff Throup for their help.

After much deliberation it was decided that the first sale at Skipton should go ahead on the original date, Tuesday 11th September. This followed a sale of shearlings in the morning. High corn prices and a lack of previous shearling trading inevitably meant that buyers from the south were few and far between. However, given the next day’s events, the average of £52.43 looked decent on the year.
