NORTHUMBERLAND BRANCH REPORT 2007

As I sit here writing my first report, it would be natural for me to go on about how bad the ewe lamb trade was or even the fat lamb trade (or lack of it), but instead I will start with North Sheep, which we attended. Finding sheep to put on the stand was as hard as everybody had told me it would be, however a big thank you to Joe Vickers of South Rennington for 2 Mule Hoggs and Lambs and to B D and M S Hope of Albierigg for a blackface ewe and pair of mule lambs. The day started well with us winning the Cup for ‘Best Sheep’ on a Breed Society Stand.

Now we come to the sales, which this year saw Hexham and Northern Marts combine the first sale with the NEMSA sale, however due to Foot and Mouth the sale did go ahead and only 4 days later than planned with strong tupping lambs a good trade but smaller lambs being harder to cash. The overall sale was only slightly down on last year and pre show results were,

1st B D and M S Hope Albierigg
2nd J Herdman Edlingham Newtown
3rd J Scott Low Leam

All that leaves for me to say is to forget about this year and to look forward to a better year ahead.
