KIRBY STEPHEN BRANCH REPORT 2007

The terrible weather in June and July turned out to be the least of our worries this year, certainly the most stressful in my farming career and I guess many of you reading this report. All caused by a totally incompetent and uncaring Government and at this rate the hill farming will disappear, as there is no other option but livestock production.

Anger isn’t strong enough a word.

Anyway with this off my chest as usual Kirkby Stephen spent several days at Cornwall Show promoting NEMSA lambs for sale at Northern Marts this autumn. Eventually we had a sale at Kirkby Stephen on the 12th October. 7000 mules were sold at an average that I don’t really want to mention, as it was so bad!

Mr. M Watson and Mr. M Dickens judged the prizewinners:

1st J &SE Bainbridge, Dousgill
2nd I Cousin Gillcumber Edge,
3rd W & CW Dent Greenriggs
4th P. Brown Oak House
5th D. Alderson East Lowfield

Well done to all who showed.

My thanks go to all branch and committee members for their work and commitment-promoting NEMSA lambs at shows and sales.

Finally we will just have to write this year off and start all over again with optimism!!! Prices will improve dramatically next year.

Good luck to you all.
