SKIPTON BRANCH REPORT 2006

The year began with the Northern Sheep Fair which was hosted at Skipton Auction Mart in January. The Fox family of Clitheroe once again kindly provided us with five excellent in lamb mule hoggs The event was very well attended, with plenty of interest at the stand Our thanks to John and Dorothy for all their hard work in making the event a success.

Then came lambing with a cold late spring which tested the hardiest of souls, followed by a hot, dry summer! We are never satisfied!

Despite a reasonable fat lamb and draught ewe trade it became apparent on return from Bicester Sheep Fair that breeding sheep might not quite match last year's prices. Unfortunately this proved correct throughout the season as sale averages were down around £9. The first sale of mule gimmers on 5th September once again saw a strong show and our thanks go to the judges and sponsors. An enjoyable evening was held afterwards at the Tarn House Hotel, which gave everyone a chance to review the day's events.
